Kansept Thoth Featured

Written by

Kansept has been on fire this year, churning out hit after hit with no signs of slowing down. As 2024 wraps up and the holiday season kicks into high gear, there’s no shortage of incredible knives to add to your wish list. Enter the Kansept Thoth, a collaboration with Greg Schob of Sparrow Knife Co., whose passion for knife making shines in every detail. Named after the Egyptian deity of wisdom, the Thoth is a knife that demands attention with its unique design, premium materials, and exceptional functionality.

First Look

At 8.03 inches overall, the Thoth might sound like a big knife on paper, but in hand, it feels nimble and well-balanced. Kansept’s take on the bolster lock—with the decorative handle material at the front rather than the back—adds a fresh twist to a classic design. This one came dressed in Purple Haze Fat Carbon, and let me tell you, the subtle blend of purple and black is striking without being over-the-top. The blackwashed titanium frame complements it perfectly, tying everything together in a sleek, cohesive package.

Ergonomics That Impress

Comfort is king, and the Thoth delivers. The handle’s pronounced index groove and flowing lines make it a joy to hold, with chamfered edges that eliminate any harshness. The lack of jimping on the blade spine might turn some heads, but the natural thumb ramp makes up for it, giving your thumb a comfortable resting spot for precision work. And then there’s the pocket clip—perfectly tuned spring tension, smooth pocket entry and exit, and zero hot spots. It’s everything you want in a clip without any of the usual gripes.

Blade Performance

Kansept calls this a clip point with a flat grind, but I’m going to respectfully disagree. To my eye, it’s more of a modified tanto with a hollow grind—and honestly, I’m here for it. The 3.43-inch CPM 20CV blade is thin behind the edge, making it an absolute slicing machine. Whether you’re zipping through cardboard or tackling more delicate tasks, this blade just doesn’t quit. The tip, perfectly aligned with the knife’s profile, excels at piercing and detail work. There’s a small finger choil if you want to choke up, though it’s not quite large enough for bigger hands to use comfortably.

Deployment and Action

The Thoth keeps things simple with a single thumb hole for deployment. While I typically prefer multiple options for a bit of fidget factor, the execution here is flawless. The hole is large enough for both thumb flicks and reverse flicks, and the caged ball bearings ensure smooth, satisfying action every time. The bolster lock is rock solid, giving you confidence during hard use while maintaining a clean, elegant aesthetic.

Final Thoughts

The Kansept Thoth is one of those knives that sticks with you. It’s functional, it’s beautiful, and it’s just plain fun to use. Whether you’re adding it to your rotation or displaying it in your collection, this knife feels like a standout in a year packed with incredible releases.

If you’re looking for a knife that blends precision, comfort, and style, the Thoth is worth every penny. And let’s be honest—who can stop at just one Kansept knife this year?
